The music festival “Days of Classics” in Balchik was opened by the Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble with conductor Plamen Djurov.

Mayor Nikolay Angelov opened the festival, stressing that this is its thirteenth consecutive edition, traditionally in the last week of July. “Neither the cobbled nor the economic or other crisis managed to stop us from holding “Days of Classics”, he said and wished the guests of the event to listen to the wonderful performers and enjoy the good weather.

“The Sofia Soloists” took a musical tour of the European capitals of Vienna, Berlin, Madrid, London, Bucharest and Sofia – with the works Divertimento in D Major by Mozart; Don Quixote Suite by Telemann; St. Paul Suite by Holst; Navarre by Sarasate; Romanian Dances by Bartók, Dance by Marin Goleminov. As an encore, the orchestra performed Oblivion by Astor Piazzolla.

In the program, due to the absence of Vivi Vassileva (health reasons), the Concerto for percussion and strings “KA” by Bushra El Turk and “Summer” from Vivaldi’s cycle “The Seasons” were not played. In a recent interview with BTA, Vivi Vassileva, who held a masterclass this year as part of the 2022 Varna Summer Music Festival, said that there has been a lot of interest in drums instruments recently because they combine different cultures, and the most joyful thing is that a lot of new music is being written for them and composers and performers are actively working together.

The Days of Classics festival in Balchik continues with a concert by the Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra – Dobrich with guest conductor the young Svetlana Gallianova at 7.30 pm, when all the events start. They will perform a programme of popular works by Dvorak, Shostakovich, Khachaturian, Tchaikovsky, Georgi Zlatev-Cherkin, Pancho Vladigerov.

Then, on 28 July, there will be a guest performance by soloists and orchestra of the State Opera Varna with guest conductor Naiden Todorov, and the State Opera Burgas, led by Yordan Dafov, will present its performance “Ah, this musical” with Edelina Kaneva, Orlin Pavlov and Orlin Goranov on 30 July.

On July 26, the audience will be able to see the performance “Curiosas” in the Time of Romanticism” by the pianist Nadezhda Tsanova, featuring the actress Ioana Bukovska-Davidova and the ballet dancers Vesa Tonova and Rossen Kanev.

Concerts at the Days of Classics festival are free admission, but a special donation box raises funds to purchase a new concert grand piano for Balchik. The initiative dates back 5 years and already 10 300 leva have been collected.”
